Doug's Fleet And Auto Night

The Dougs Fleet & Auto was held on June 20th. Some races went smoothly. Others did not go so well.

The first race of the night was the Carolina Vintage Club. Marty Reid, #24, took the pole in qualifying with a lap of 18.455 mph. Reid held on to his #1 starting position in the caution free race. He was followed in second by Jesse Martin, #3. Duffie Sams, #44, who actually started from the pole, rounded out the top 3.

The Outlaw Division was race 2. Dakota Slagle, #13, won the top spot in qualifying with a lap of 15.533, 92.705 mph. The top 4 were inverted which allowed Trey Epps, #55 to start P1. However, he chose to go to the rear on the start. This moved David Messer to the top spot for the start. One caution waved on lap 27 when Messer started smoking and stopped on the track. The race ran caution free from that point. Slagle came back to take the win. He was followed in second by Sheflon Clay, #15. Messer came back to finish in third.

The Carolina Mini Stock Division was race 3. Roger Nance, #33, turned a fast lap in qualifying of 17.848, 80.681 mph. However, the top 4 were inverted which allowed Jason Garwood, #16, to bring the field to green. Caution 1 was on lap 9. This was the result of David Kanupp, #00, and Brian Mundy, #6, tangling in turn 2. Caution 2 was on lap 21. This was the result of Nance spinning under the flag stand. Garwood went on to win the race. Jamison Whittington, #61, followed in second. Allison Houston, #29, rounded out the top 3.

The Street Stock Division was event #4. Cody DeMarmels, #30, set the mark in qualifying with a lap time of 17.094, 84.240 mph. Here again the top 4 were inverted. This allowed Gary Ledbetter, #8, to start first. The only caution of this event was on lap 1. Duane Best, # 67, caught fire in turn 3. This necessitated a complete restart. Johnny Reynolds, #8R, won the race. DeMarmels placed second and Mike Hatton, #12, placed third.

Brandon Setzer, driving the Doug Houser, #11 car, won the pole for the Late Model Race. This was the result of a lap time of 15.527, 92.741 mph. Setzer also brought out the first caution on lap 18 when he rolled to a stop on the track. On the restart, Setzer and Skyler Chaney, #17, spun on the front stretch. Sally Mott, #15 M, also spun at the same time in turn 4. Caution 3 was on lap 29 when Austin Harris, #28, and Setzer got together on the backstretch. The race ran under green for the balance of the race. Landom Huffman, #75, won his third race in two nights when the checkers fell. He was followed in second by Chase Burgeson, #22C. Cody Kelley, #13, was third.

The Renegade Division was race 6 of the night. Gary Ledbetter, #32, won the top spot with a lap of 18.856, 76.368 mph. The top 4 were then inverted for the start of the race. Jordan Layne, #04, was the recipient of the pole via invert. Lap 2 saw Michael Waldrop, #22, spin on the front stretch. The last caution was on lap 27 when Kyle Dubeau, #12, spun in turn 4. Ledbetter overcame the invert and won the race. Klint Townsend, #9, came home second. Marlin Gunter placed third.

The Limited Late Model Division was next. Thomas Lee, #54, had the pole until an invert of the top 4. Lee’s lap time was 16.108, 89.396 mph. Walter Jenkins IV, #1J, brought the field to green. Hannah Bell, #05, brought out the only yellow of the race. This was on lap 10. Jenkins made use of starting first and won the race. Chase Pollard, #98, was second and Coleman Chapman, #33, was third.

The Crown Vic Division was the last race of the night. Dominic Morlando, #013, was fast in qualifying with a lap time of 20.356, 70.740 mph. The invert struck once more when Nic Waldrop, #22W, brought the field to green. James Powell, #32, spun on the front stretch on lap 3. Lap 7 saw the caution wave for Logan Greene, #08, on the front stretch. Caution 3 was on lap 8. This was a result of Joseph Hodge #4, Waldrop, and Greene all spinning in turn 4. The final caution was on lap 12 when Hodges and Greene once again got together in turn 2. Powell went on to win the race. Morlando was second. He was followed by Barney Arnette, #17, in third.

Once again Tri County Speedway had a full docket of exciting racing! We hope all race fans enjoyed all the events of the evening. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next scheduled race for July 4th weekend! Not only will there be racing but a fantastic fireworks show as well!!!
