Tri-County Speedway
Ripple Fiber 285
It was great seeing everyone at the track last week for the Ripple Fiber 335. The temperature made it feel as though we were deep in the season when it was really just our third event.
The first division to take to the track was the Vintage Division. Don Fenn in the #72 modified car took the pole with a lap time of 17.128, 84.072 mph. Fenn held off Connie Mickel, #90, for the win in the caution free race. Dee McCall, #20, placed third.
The Carolina Mini Stock Division was the second event of the night. Allison Houston, #29, started from the pole with a lap time of 17.635, 81.655 mph. Houston finished in p1 with Jamison Whittington, #61, coming home second. Jason Garwood, #46, was third in the second caution free event of the night.
The Renegade Division marked the third race in a row free of cautions. Klint Townsend #9, was fast in qualifying with a lap of 18.635, 77.265. Townsend went on to be the unofficial winner pending a post race tear down. After Post Race tear down Klint Townsend was Disqualified make Nathan Pate #1 your winner. Kyle Dubeau #12 was second. Joshua Gunter was third in the #92 car.
The Street Stock Division was race 4. Johnny Reynolds, #8, with a lap time of 17.140, 84.014 mph claimed the pole for the race. The first caution of the race and of the night was on lap 2. Duane Best, #67, rolled to a stop on the backstretch. Lap 20 saw caution #2 waved. Gary Aldrich, #34, had some line come lose and poured fluid on the track. The race was red flagged for a lengthy period on lap 20. Racing resumed and Aldrich brought out another caution on lap 21. Mike Hatton, #12, was also involved. Because of time, the race was called official with Davey Smart coming home the winner. Aldrich was second and Hatton was third.
The Limited Late Model Division was next up. Owen Wilson, #42, sat on the pole with a lap time of 16.065, 89.635 mph. Wilson broke on lap 1 and brought out the first caution. Caution #2 was 3 laps later on lap 4. This was a result of Jake Freeman, #08, spinning in turn 1. Lap 14 saw the yellow waved once more. This was a result of Rich Hudson, #8, and Coleman Chapman, #33, colliding in turn 2. Walter Jenkins IV, #1, was the cause of the final caution of the race when he spun in turn 4 hitting the inside wall. Jenkins recovered and claimed the victory. Eric Wallace, #12, was runner up Clarkson Hagan #17, placed third.
The Front Wheel Drive Division ran an abbreviated race with only 3 cars. Brandon Collins, #46, won the pole with a time of 19.149, 75.199 mph. Collins held on to the lead and claimed the win in the caution free race. Skylar Brown, #2, was second and Drew Porter, #62, was third.
The Late Model Division was race 7. Ryan Millington, driving the #40 car sped to a lap time of 15.663, 91.936 mph. One caution was displayed on lap 29 when Wyatt Miller, #73, spun in turn 2. Landon Huffman, #75 won the night’s event. Charlie Watson, #9, came in second. He was followed by Millington in third.
The Crown Vic Division was the last race of the night. Jesse Clark, #1, was pole sitter, with a speed of 20.473, 70.336 mph. Dominic Morlando, #013, won the nightcap. Clark was second. He was followed by Nic Waldrop, #22, on yet, another caution free race.
We hope all the race fans and race teams enjoyed tonight’s events. The track food was wonderful as always! The Lake Norman Cheesecakery provided a special treat for everyone! We hope to see everyone back on May 2nd for another exciting night of racing.
