Skip Moser Memorial 335
When Saturday dawned, the weather was calling for a good chance of rain. As it turned out, it was a perfect night for racing!
The first race of the evening was the Vintage Series. Bob Haybmen, #8, claimed the fast time award with a lap of 16.716, 86.145 mph. However, he started 5th with the invert. The race ran caution free. Haybmen clawed back to the lead to take the win. He was followed by Larry Benz, #4, in second. Tim Gilbert, #27, rounded out the top three.
The Crown Vic Series was next on the agenda. Jesse Clark, #1, was fastest in qualifying with a lap of 20.327, 70.841 mph. Via the invert, TJ Gibson, #06, brought the field to green. The night didn’t start as good as it finished for James Powell, #32. He brought about the first caution on lap 11, smoking badly. Dominic Morlando, #013, brought out caution 2 when he spun in turn 2 on lap 12. A long red flag ensued after a 3 car incident on lap 15. Kirk Hanson, #01, Shane Lisk, #13, and Todd Bradberry #00, all became involved in a wreck on the front stretch. Powell came back from his early caution to win. Dominic Morlando #013 placed second and Joseph Hodges, #4, placed third.
Race 3 of the night was the Street Stock Division. Davey Smart, #14, made a claim for the fast time with a lap of 17.054, 84.437mph. The invert required him to relinquish his P1 position to Mike Hatton, #12, who started the race. Gary Aldrich, #34, spun in turn 4 for the first caution. Caution #2 occurred when Terrence Tucker, #42, had an issue and started to go low on the front stretch and collected Smart on the way. It was a pretty good hit for both. Gary Ledbetter, #8, took home the checkers at the end of the night. Gary Aldrich, #34, followed in second. Terrence Tucker, #42 finished third.
The Outlaw Division was race #4. This race ran caution free. Dakota Slagle, #13, was the official pole sitter with a lap of 15.614, 92.224 mph. The invert allowed Robert Thomason, #95, to start from P1. Slagle came back from the invert to win. He was followed by #25, David Messer, in second. David Werner, #15, was third.
Race 5 was the Limited Late Model Division. Owen Wilson, #42, had a lap time of 15.813, 91.064 mph. The invert handed the pole to Konner Leicht, #2. Leicht lost control in turn 4 on lap 1. The cars of Wilson, Ethan Tovo, #13, and Jackson Tovo, #31 were also collected. Therefore, a complete restart had to be done. Coleman Chapman, #3, spun on lap 7 for the only other yellow of the race. Zack Franks, #1, won the event which paid $4500 to win. Chase Pollard, #98, followed in second and Walter Jenkins IV, #1, placed third.
Race 6 of the night was the Front Wheel Drive Division. Isaac Harris driving the #45 car was fastest in qualifying with a lap of 18.818, 76.522 mph. However, the invert put Drew Porter, #62, on the pole for the start of race. The race was caution free. Harris came back to win the event. He was followed in second by Bradlee Jones, #11. Donny Holland, #2, was third.
The Late Model Division was race 7. Kaeden Ballos, #19B, had a fast lap of 15.534, 92.699 mph. The race was slowed by one caution. That was on lap 51. This was the result of Billy Snodgrass, #99, hitting the wall coming out of turn 2. Ballos went on to win the event. Hudson Sharp, #15, rolled home second. Diego Mendez-Torres, #57, placed third.
The Renegade Division was race 8. Klint Townsend, #9, set the mark in qualifying. His lap was 18.521, 77.749 mph. An invert of the top 5 put Joshua Gunter, #92, on the pole. He spun before they could complete a lap and a restart of the race was necessary. Michael Waldrop, #22, spun on lap 18 to bring out the last caution. Townsend completed his comeback and won the race. Nathan Pate, #1, was second. He was followed by John Reynolds, #24, in third.
The Carolina Mini Stock Division was the last race of the night. Jason Garwood, #16, won the pole with a lap of 17.764, 81.062 mph. An invert of the top 5 placed Robert Trivette, #11, on the inside front row to start the race. The race ran caution free. Garwood came back to win the race. Jamison Whittington, #61, was second. Allison Houston, #29, brought home third.
We hope all the race fans and race teams enjoyed Saturday night racing at Tri-County Speedway this week. The track food was great! On April 18 the Lake Norman Cheesecakery is scheduled to be at the race track again. We hope to see everyone there for more exciting racing!!
