Tri-County Speedway
Third Race of the Season
The third race of the year at Tri-County Speedway was on Saturday, May 10th. The track did not feature any inverts in any of the races.
The first race of the night was the Carolina Vintage Series. Bob Hapeman, #8, led all qualifiers with a lap time of 16.544, 87.040 mph. The race ran caution free. Hapeman held on to his starting spot to claim the win. Don Fann, #72, was second. He was followed by Mike Pair, #84, in third.
Race 2 of the night was the Front Wheel Drive Division. Skylar Brown, #2, set the pace in qualifying with a speed of 19.205, 74.980 mph. This race also ran caution free. As it turned out, the race was for entertainment purposes only. Jackie Stone, #17, appeared to win. However, in postrace inspection, the entire field was disqualified.
The Outlaws took to the track for the third feature of the night. Tyler Church, #1X was fastest with a speed of 15.205, 94.705 mph. There was only one caution during the event. Austin Simmons, #7, spun in turn 2 on lap 2. Mike Toner Jr, #111, was the winner of the 50 lap event. Martin Nesbitt, #92, was second and he was followed by Tyler Church in third.
Race 4 of the night was the Renegade Division. Mike Shelton, #24, claimed the pole, at 18.713, 76.951 mph. Nathan Pate, #21, had an engine grenade on him on lap 9. The race was red flagged until all the fluids were cleaned from the track. Joshua Gunter, #92, spun entering turn 1, on lap 16. Klint Townsend, #9, won the event. Gary Ledbetter, #28, placed second. Mike Shelton placed third.
The Carolina Mini Stocks were next on the track. Allison Houston, #29, was fastest in qualifying, with a speed of 17.447, 82.535 mph. The race ran without incident. Isaac Harris, #59, took home the first place trophy. Jamison Whittington, #61, was second and Allison Houston fell from the pole position to finish third.
The Limited Late Models had their turn on the track for race 6. Vincent Arthur, #9, had the honor of capturing the pole with a lap time of 15.748, 91.440 mph. It didn’t take long for the first yellow to come out. The cars of Ethan Johnson, #27, Jeff Simpson, #07, Billy Smith, #98, and Santiago Hill, #9H were all involved in an altercation in turn 4 on lap 1. Lap 47 saw the second caution. Austin Harris, #59, Matt Leicht, #55, and Arthur were all involved in an incident on the backstretch. While cleanup was going on the race was red flagged. During this time a brief shower come through. Hudson Sharp, #15, won the green white checkered finish. Bub Haney, #28, was second and Eric Wallace, #12, placed third.
Street Stocks were next for the night. Nathan Franks, #1, was strong in qualifying. He captured the pole with a lap time of 16.811, 85.658 mph. No cautions were waved during the race. However, Davey Smart, #14, spun in turn 2 on the last lap. Gary Ledbetter, #8, went on to win. It appeared that Johnny Reynolds, #55, was second. However, Reynolds refused a postrace tear down and was dq’d. This made Franks the second place finisher and Mike Hatton, #12, was third.
The Late Model feature division rolled off as the 8th race of the night. 15.409, 93.451 was the lap time in qualifying that put Graham Hollar, #25H, on the pole. The cars of Charlie Watson, #9, Tyler Chapman, #28, and Dillon Houser all became entangled in turn 2 of lap 2 to bring out yellow #1. Lap 12 saw caution #2 happen when Taylor Satterfield, #40, slowed to a stop on the track with a flat tire. Lap 15 saw caution 3 when Austin McDaniel, #12, and Sylas Ripley, #09, had their own incident on the backstretch. After racing resumed, the yellow was waved on lap 44, when Thomas Beane slowed to a stop with a cut tire on lap 44. The last yellow waved was on lap 64 when Landon Huffman also slowed to a stop after damaged from contact with another car. Carson Kvapil, #32, won the Late Model race and DJ Canipe, #29, came home second. It appeared that Charlie Watson was third. However, a retaliatory move after the race was over got him dq’d. The third place finisher was Hollar.
The last race of the night was the Crown Vic Series. Jacob Hickman #22H, won the pole with a lap time of 20.242, 71.139 mph. Hickman held on to that spot to win the caution free race. Jesse Clark, #1, was second and Kyle Dubeau, #12, placed third.
We hope all the race fans enjoyed the exciting races of the night. We especially hope that all the mothers had a good time since it was Mother’s Day Weekend! The track food was great as usual! We hope to see everyone back on Saturday, May 24th for our next race at Tri- County Speedway!
