Tri-County Speedway
Second Race of the Season
The second race of the season at Tri-County Speedway was a cold weather event. The fans did
not care that it was cold! They showed up anyway to view the great racing that was to take place that
night.
The first race of the night was the Carolina Vintage series. Bob Hapeman, #8, led all qualifiers,
with a lap of 16.382, 87.901 mph. The race ran caution free. Hapeman never relinquished the lead. He
was followed in second by Don Fenn, #72. Bobby Wallace, #35, rounded out the top 3.
The second race of the night was also caution free. It was the Carolina Mini Stocks which had
Dennis Trivette as its pole winner. His lap time in qualifying was 17.440, 82.568 mph. Isaac Harris, #59,
passed Trivette for the win. Trivette was second. He was followed by Allison Houston, #29, in third.
Business picked up with the Outlaws being the third division on the track. David Messer, #26,
clocked in with a lap time of 15.409, 93.451 mph. Debris, on lap 25, brought out the event’s first
caution. Austin Simmons, #7, spun on the front stretch on lap 46 to bring out yellow #2. Messer held on
to his #1 starting spot to win the event. He was followed by Martin Nesbitt, #92, in second. Dakota
Slagle, #13, came home third.
Race #4 was the Renegade Division. Klint Townsend, #9, set the mark in qualifying with a lap
time of 18.658, at 77.178 mph. Shawn Thompson, #1.5, was the only reason for a caution in the race.
He spun in turn 2 on lap 1. Townsend held on for the win. Mike Shelton, #24, followed in second. Gary
Ledbetter took third place.
Front Wheel Drive Division was the 5 th race of the night. It was also a caution free event. Isaac
Harris, #46, sat on the pole with a speed of 18.700, 77.005 mph. As the pole sitter, Harris was able to
hold on to the front position and gained the win. He was followed by Skylar Brown, #2, in second. John
Triplett, #21, was third.
The Street Stock Division rolled off as the 6 th event of the night. Johnny Reynolds, #55, qualified
on the pole with a speed of 16.878, 85.318 mph. James Powell, #27, lost an engine going into turn 1 on
lap 26. The race was red flagged while the track cleanup took place. One lap after the restart, on lap 27,
the last caution came out. Mike Hatton, #12, and Frank Curtis, #34, got together in turn 2. Reynolds
took home the checkers at the end of the race. Gary Ledbetter, #28, was in second and the 3 car came
home third.
The Limited Late Model race was the next to last race. Owen Wilson, #9, had the fast lap in
qualifying with a lap time of 15.626, 92.154 mph. Wilson slowed on the track on lap 34 to bring out the
first caution. The second caution was waved with the checkers on the last lap. Addyson King, #5, and
Garrett Freeman, #51, got together in turn 1 as the leader was coming out of 4 to take the checkered. It
appeared as though Casey Pierce, #18, won followed by Austin Harris, #59, in second. Both cars were
dq’d postrace. Hudson Sharp, #15, inherited the win. He was followed by Santiago Hill, #9H, in second.
Eric Wallace, #12, moved up to the third position after postrace inspections.
The Crown Vic series capped off the night with their race. Rick Kelley, #55, was the pole sitter.
His lap time was 20.447, 70.425 mph. The race ran caution free. Kyle Dubeau, #12, came from his
second place start to claim the win. Jacob Hickman, #22H, was second and Kelley was third.
We hope everyone enjoyed all the racing events of the night. As we move into May, hopefully
the weather will warm up! Although Saturday night April 12 th was windy and cool, we hope that
Saturday, May 10 th will be more race fan friendly weather wise. See you in 3 weeks! Happy Easter!
