Shrine 100 On Asphalt
On Saturday night May 16th fans came to Tri County Speedway to see ten great races and support the Shriners! What a night of racing!
First race of the night was the Crown Vic series. Vince Morlando, #279, was the pole sitter with a lap time of 20.545, 70.090 mph. The top 3 were inverted which allowed Joseph Hodges, #4, to start from the pole. Hodges held on to that spot to win the race. He was followed by Dominic Morlando, #013, in second and Logan Greene, #08, in third.
Front Wheel Drive was race 2. Skylar Brown, #2, snagged the pole position earlier in the day with a lap time of 19.735, 72.966 mph. Again the top three were inverted. Brown came back to win the caution free race. Skylar Hughes, #42, was second. Ron Mock, #32, followed in third.
The Carolina Vintage Club was the third of 10 races of the night. Jesse Martin, #3, started from the pole. The #83 car of Hank Massaro spun in turns 3 and 4 causing him to hit the outside wall on lap 8. There was a lengthy clean up resulting in the race being shortened. Martin went on to win and Dee McCall, #20, was second. Duffie Sams, #44, came home in third.
The Outlaw Division rolled off for race 4. Tyler Church set a fast time in qualifying with a lap time of 15.493, 92.945 mph. The top three were inverted which allowed David Messer, #26, to see the green first. The race ran caution free and Dakota Slagle, #13, took home the checkers. Messer was second and Robert Thomason, #95, was in third.
Renegades were next up. Klint Townsend, #9, captured the pole. He clocked in at 18. 756, 76.775 mph. An invert of the top 3 was again the order of the day. This allowed Kyle Dubeau, #12, to bring the field to green. On lap 5 Jordan Layne, #04, appeared to get into Michael Waldrop, #22, in turn 4 which brought out the first caution. Layne was again involved in the second caution. This time it was in turn 1 with Jarrett Anderson, #26. Lap 8 saw caution 3 waved. This was the result of Justin Austin, #1, blowing a tire going into turn 1. The final caution was on lap 12 when Joshua Gunter, #92, spun in turn 4. Townsend went on to win the race. Gary Ledbetter, #32, was second in line. He was followed by Dubeau in third.
Carolina Mini Stocks was race 6. Roger Nance, #33, was victim of the invert in this race. He qualified first at 17.648, 81.595 mph but started third. This time Allison Houston, #29, inherited the pole. Doug Hopper, #15, brought out caution #1 when he spun in the 4th turn on lap 3. Houston along with Robert Trivette, #11, and Brian Mundy, #6, all spun on the front stretch on lap 23. On the restart Houston and Mundy spun once again in turn 2. Jamison Whittington, #61, was the race winner. Robert Trivette, was second and Dennis Trivette, #28, was third.
The Late Models took to the track for race 7. Ronnie Bassette Jr., #04, led all qualifiers with a speed of 15.449, 93.209 mph. The first caution was waved on lap 8 when Lanie Buice, #77, hit the wall. A stuck throttle seemed to be the culprit. Lap 36 saw the next yellow waved. This time Nathan Lyons, #3, and Wyatt Miller, #73, got together in turn 2. Landon Huffman, #75, held off Bassette Jr. for the win. Donovan Strauss, #98, followed in third.
Street Stock Division was race 8. Davey Smart, #14, was fast with a lap time of 17.215, 83.647 mph. The top 3 were inverted which allowed Gary Ledbetter, #8, to start from the pole. The race ran caution free. Ledbetter held on for the win. Smart placed second and Mike Hatton, #12 was in third.
Ethan Tovo, #13, was pole sitter at 15.993, 90.039 mph for the Limited Late Model race. One caution was waved on lap 31 when Alex Miller, #37, and Chase Pollard, #98, were involved in an incident in turn 4. Walter Jenkins IV, #1J took home the win. He was followed in second by Tovo. Isaac Harris, #59, was third.
The last race of the night was the Tri County Vintage Division. Jonathan Fleming, #6, started from the pole and held on for the win in the caution free race. Dee McCall, #20, was second and Jesse Martin, #3, was third.
We hope all the race fans enjoyed the fun filled night of 10 races. We also hope everyone enjoyed the great track food as well as the wonderful desserts from Lake Norman Cheesecakery. We hope to see everyone for our next regular race on June 6th.
